There are three parts to the SUP paddle which you need to take into account when choosing the right one for you: the handle, the shaft and the blade.
The handle should be picked based on comfort and grip.
The shaft has two main features that must be taken into account: weight and flexibility. Both of these become factors of the carbon content and the number of adjustment points in the shaft (fixed length paddle, two piece paddle or three piece paddle). For entry level a two piece is advisable so you can find your desired length of paddle, as your skills progress a fixed paddle will give increased performance.
When it comes to picking the blade of your paddle remember to take the below into consideration -
Large blades offer the most resistance in the water, meaning that they will make the SUP go faster.
Small blades are perfect for the smaller beginners or kids to use for cruising in the bay.
Medium paddles are for the experienced paddler who perform a variety of SUP disciplines or for the strong SUP paddlers that want speed.
