Read more from Gaastra here:

The time has come for Gaastra to step up to the plate with the ultimate competition boom. Currently we are finalizing the production of one of the best booms ever to hit the market. We have 2 sizes for wave and freestyle, along with 3 race sizes each having monocoque one piece carbon tail pieces.
The Outline curves are optimized based on target sail sizes and the back ends come with different widths for each boom length making for a perfectly integrated rig. The Race back ends will come with a built in pulley system for adjustable outhauls.

Oversized front and tail sections for increased stiffness, reduced diameter in the grip area for increased comfort and ergonomics. A textured grip section in the grip area increases the traction.  A stiff mast cup for direct force transmission between the boom and mast makes the connection rock solid.
A long closing lever for easy opening and closure while rigging.

The new high tech Gaastra front end is built out of reinforced Plastic for more stiffness, better power load for more performance and lighter weight for better handling.

The new monocoque arms and back ends are built out of the best 100% Carbon quality composite technology. The all new Gaastra molds are produced under extreme heat and pressure to reach the highest level of carbon composite quality.

Gaastra Wave Boom 100 % Carbon

Our newly developed Wave Boom comes in 2 sizes: 140 and 150. A super reduced diameter and partially V shaped  grip section for the best ergonomics and oversized front section for maximum stiffness. The monocoque molded tail features an intelligent plastic add on component with a rapid outhaul fix system along with a double protection pad for the carbon tail for rock encounters.

Boom Length Weight
140-190 cm 2.33 kg
150-210 cm 2.44 kg

Gaastra Race Boom 100 % Carbon

The All- New Gaastra Race Boom comes in 3 sizes: 180 200 and 220. A no compromise racing boom extremely stiff and light. In particular the monocoque molded tail with integrated pulleys is super light and ultra stiff reducing considerably the swing weight which is a very important factor for jibing around the marks of the racing course. The front and back sections are oversized, properly making it the stiffest and lightest boom on the market.

Boom Length Weight
180-230 cm 2.92 kg
200-260 cm 3.24 kg
220-280 cm 3.64 kg

Saturday - SUP come and try day with Anne!

SHQ is stoked to welcome the always smiling Anne on board to run our Stand Up Paddle come and try days over the next few Saturdays.

We caught up with Anne to get a bit of an insight into what she loves about SUP and her upcoming plans.

How did you get into SUP?

I had seen friends do it and wanted to give it a go. I came down to Sandy Beach one day last summer to try it and was hooked from that moment!

What you enjoy about SUP?

I love that SUP is so physically rewarding & you don’t even realise that you’re exercising! I also feel it is really awesome for your mind and soul, just gliding along the water is so soothing, relaxing and clarifying. I also enjoy yoga, so at the moment I’m working on some SUP yoga tricks too!

Why SUP?

Living in Bayside, Melbourne, There isn’t always a lot of time for me to get down to the coast to surf. I’ve always loved the beach and considering the bay is mostly flat, SUP is a really great alternative to get onto the water to have that release. Love having the bay as my backyard!

Any interest in giving something else like kiting or windsurfing a go?

I've never done it before, but keen to give it a go if someone will teach me! Haha.

Where is your favourite place for a paddle and what kind of set up do you use?
Getting up and into the bay for a sunrise paddle is gorgeous and a great way to start the day! I just got back from Bali and had an awesome time SUPing there. It was so beautiful and peaceful.

I love to try a range of boards, depending what I’m using it for. I have a 10’6 board for flat water and use something around 9ft for the surf. Still trying to master SUP-Surfing but it’s great fun!

Any upcoming plans?
Aside from doing some instructing at the SBHQ School and running these demo's for SHQ, I'll be off to Costa Rica & Nicaragua in February to do some SUP/Surf/Yoga training. My goal for spring/summer in 2013 is to have my own SUP Wellness Days that combines SUP, yoga & fitness – for all levels.

The beauty of SUP is that ANYONE CAN DO IT! So come down and give it a go!

The SHQ SUP demo's with Anne will run every Saturday (weather providing) for the next few weeks down at Sandy Beach. All of our demo boards from JP, Coreban, Naish and Surftech will be down there so come say Hi and check it out!

THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK LUKE

After a lifetime working at SHQ Boardsports Luke is now taking the opportunity to take his career to the next level with the challenging (and better paying) life of brand rep for Global Surf Industries.

He will continue to be fully immersed in his passion for SUP and surfing as he drives the great group of brands under the GSI stable to bigger and better things in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.

Luke will of course be sorely missed at SHQ but we all wish him the best of luck and thank him for his significant contributions to the store and the windsurf, SUP and Snow industry over the years.

Luke will continue to be a part of the SHQ team but now as a rider and supplier instead of a staff member.  In a bid to make sure Luke doesn't forget his roots in windsurfing, SHQ presented him with a parting gift of a new NeilPryde Combat 4.7, we look forward to seeing him using it on the water along with all the new toys he'll have to "test" and present to us in his new job.

Make sure you come on in before Christmas to say farewell and wish Luke good luck.

Stay tuned for a farewell interview from Luke on his memories and stories of his time at SHQ and an insight on what is in store for him in his next exciting chapter.
